Therefore, law enforcing authorities dealing with mentally ill people ought to be educated on how these individuals behave to help deal with them without violence. Mental illness should be viewed as a disease with psychological causes rather than a criminal act. Criminalizing mental health has been a significant contributor to stigma in mental health patients. Saks’s narration of the experiences of restraint and isolation during her mental illness treatment is a clear indication that uses of force in handling and treating mentally ill people only leads to stigmatization rather than mental illness construction.
