Pakistan gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1947 but remained a Dominion of

The Government of India Act gave the Constitutional Assembly the powers and functions of the
Central Parliament. On the other hand, the Constitutional Assembly has the authority to amend
either the Indian Independence Act (1947) or the Indian Government Act (1948). (1935). No
British Parliament Act may be extended to Pakistan unless accompanied by a Constituent
Assembly statute (Ispahani, 2017). The first Constituent Assembly began with 69 members and
grew to 79 overtime.
On March 12, 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted a Resolution on the Purposes and
Objectives of the Constitution, also known as the Objectives for Pakistan, which was the first
significant step toward adopting a Constitution. It established the Constitution's foundations and
defined its structure (Nazar, 2021). The resolution was proposed by Pakistan's first prime
minister, Liaquat Ali Khan.
