Race in the 19
th
century United States
"RACE" has been a significant issue in American land, considering that American land is
composed of blacks and whites. Races are based on color, African- Americans as immigrants,
and racism practices in the U.S. The idea of an instilled mentality is very powerful when in mind,
and therefore, a trial to do away with it isn't that simple. Most people believe that whites are
superior in most things, which is evident in most American movies (Rubin, 2020).
It is evident that the African Americans who have undergone immigration are facing
miseries in America. The Europeans, who are considered the African American group, went into
the white countries to be workers. Furthermore, political matters are considered significant since
some white Americans keep questioning how the blacks are considered white Americans since
they were just immigrants (Morrison, 1930).
Secondly, on the issue of race, the blacks were often not allowed to intermarry with
whites and participate in activities like doing global businesses with them because they are
considered to be minorities. Furthermore, on the matters concerning media, many characters
produced in American movies are ninety percent whites. This is evidence of how the blacks were
undermined by whites (Fante, 1939).
However, the new patterns of racism have been confirmed by the treatment the blacks
experienced while in America. This is seen clearly in one of the primary sources whereby Mary
Tape is seen protesting against the refusal of San Francisco to admit her only daughter since he is
just like any other kid. However, it is evidence that the child is not admitted since she is Chinese.
From this document written by Mary Tape, the oppression done by the whites is being described
and shown clearly (Tape, M 1885).
The color difference between people brings about various mentalities in people's minds,
and as known, sometimes it's hard to take away what people believe. Many studies have been
done, one of them being "Racism, Inequality, and Health Care for African Americans" done by
Jamila Taylor, which shows how African Americans have been disadvantaged in the U.S. in
health, housing, jobs, and all ways of living among others. This is an issue that needs to be
shunned for the betterment and safety of all.
