Within the tropics, ascending moist winds condense to form clouds which fall as rain. Within
temperate regions descending dry air picks up moisture hence strong winds are received in the
regions.
2.How do ocean currents affect the climate? Provide an example.
Ocean currents help to regulate global temperatures by conveying warm and cold-water currents.
Within the tropics, greater solar radiation received heats up ocean water to temperatures higher
than that in temperate areas where less solar radiation is received. The action of currents then
helps to evenly distribute this heat around the globe. Warm currents flow towards the temperate
regions increasing temperatures while cold currents flow towards tropical regions decreasing
temperatures.
For example: The warm gulf stream originating from Mexico carries warm water to the
temperate North American region increasing temperatures in those areas.
