In discussing diversity elements to be considered can include age, race, levels of experience, cultural background and gender (Ostrom, 2008). Diversity in the workplace is of great benefit to a company or organization. Diversity gives a business an expanded talent pool. People from different cultural background have different talents that they have learned from their cultures which can be utilized in the business. Workplace diversity creates a team whose members have different viewpoints, and this fosters innovation (Ostrom, 2008). Diversity also creates a mentality in the employees that the coworkers are different and this enhances mutual respect among the employees. Despite the many benefits of diversity in the workplace, some organizations lack diversity in their workplaces. This has negative consequences for the organization, and it is therefore important for managers to ensure that they manage diversity and ensure it is applied in their organizations.
