Running head: MEDIUM VERSUS MESSAGE Medium versus Message Student’s Name Course Number- Name of Course Instructor’s Name Date MEDIUM VERSUS MESSAGE 2 Medium versus Message Introduction Computer-mediated communication (CMC) involves the interaction of individuals that occurs through telecommunication systems that is the people do not have to meet one on one. This happens using various software and networking technology (Tidwell and Walther, 2002). CMC can be in two types which are synchronous and asynchronous communication. Synchronous communication happens when the people involved are actively communicating that is the feedback is immediate such as video conferencing (Lewandowski, Rosenberg, Parks and Siegel, 2011). Asynchronous communication occurs where the feedback is not immediate, and one person can leave a message then it will be answered later such as emails. Effects of CMC in an Organization This type of communication is helpful to those employees who are introverts and rarely contribute anything in one on one meeting yet at times they have critical knowledge on the subject being discussed. This type of communication will give them a chance to express their ideas which are useful to the organization. CMC also helps in communicating with employees who are not working in the office.
