Research Proposal
Introduction
Nowadays, vegetarianism is highly being valued as a nutrition option by many U.S.
citizens. Although the proportion of carnivores to vegetarians may not have varied much
recently, its recognition and acceptance have. Nowadays, many eateries provide vegetarian
menus. Have many people’s perspectives about food changed? The topic is quite intriguing to
understand the motivation behind many people’s choices to shift their diet from increased
consumption of meat to vegetables, contrary to those whose backgrounds are not based on
preference but in a medical condition or spiritual belief.
Description of the Topic
The number of researchers providing their views and publishing information on the
subject is overwhelming. The research will focus on the details of their arguments and assess
them, and observe how these debates may be changing. In that context, the proposal will be
speculating on contemporary values in connection with past ideas about food in the 20th century.
Moreover, other external factors may also influence people's perspectives on food. Such factors
may include the cost of fish and beef, Mad Cow disease, cholesterol consciousness, and an
increase in fast-food consumption.
Once the comprehension of the major prospects on the issue has been established, there
will be a deeper exploration of how people view such arguments, and whether those debates

shape their behavior. Concurrently, there will be a consideration of factors like region, age,
gender, and customs that might influence such choices. For instance, a person's experience or
inexperience with livestock might likely be essential. The research expects to discover that
besides conspicuous effects of publicity maneuvers, other daily changes in people's emotions and
attitudes about food influence their choices.
The research will also consider whether vegetarians' and non-vegetarians nutrition habits
are equally chosen. The probability is that many vegetarians make informed decisions to avoid
proteins, based on various beliefs and reasoning. However, fewer non-vegetarians would have
either consciously engaged in choices about whether they would consume meat, or considered it
as a problem.
Literature Review
Fieldwork
The research question focuses partially on what information and attitudes influence
people's nutrition choices. Therefore, the research will use two organizations as fronts for the
fieldwork. An organic farm in Latrobe will enable the fieldwork team to track some meat
producers to explore how their approaches vary from those of factory farms. Moreover, the study
will inform on how meat, public health, and food safety affect their businesses. An organic food
store in Pittsburgh will enable the team to survey buyers, as common shoppers, who have some
cognizance about food standards. The team will inquire extensively why they prefer shopping in
the market. The fieldwork team will focus on the construct questions that examine the rate of
vegetarianism and strive to connect this with buyer's attitudes about nutrition, food safety, and
the moral treatment of animals.
