THE RISE AND FALL OF BYZANTINE EMPIRE Despite the traumatic change in life bought about by the Gothic Wars, the Byzantine Empire was able to re-invent itself. The main event that led to the rise of the empire was the foundation of the Constantinople City which happened in 324 AD. In the ear 1453, the Turks conquered Constantinople which led to the death of the Empire. According to Vasiliev, 1958 the strong foundation that fuelled the Empire’s development are; • Roman government, • Greek culture • Christianity The city of Constantinople was built by and named after him Constantine I, who was the first Monarch in Byzantine Empire, by then The Eastern Roman Empire.
