Running head: RESEARCH QUESTION Research: Gender and depression Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Title Date RESEARCH QUESTION 2 Research Question and Background The area of interest I intend to research on is depression and depressive disorders, specifically, the factors that influence depression in an individual. The formulated research question is; does gender and social media influence depression in individuals? Depression is a common and serious illness that has a negative effect on the way an individual feels how they act and how they think as well. It results in sadness and the loss of interest in the various activities that make life interesting or rather, the activities that an individual once enjoyed. For this reason, depression makes an individual less functional in their daily activities. Some of the symptoms of depression include losing interest in the common life activities, having trouble sleeping, feeling guilty and worthless among other feelings. According to the American Psychiatric Association, 16.6% of people will be depressed at one point in their lives. Also, 6.7% of the adults are affected by depression in a year. Depression is caused by a number of factors; some of which include genetics, personality, environmental factors, and biochemistry among others (American Psychiatric Association).
