Cultural values
The arena of cultural values can be as large as a continent full of people's shared values
about what is acceptable or not. In this sense, it is very rare for three hundred million
people or so in America, for example, to agree on cultural values, but the cultural values
that are externally imposed by national, state level, regional, and other smaller and
smaller subsets of human and natural influences can become more and more shared as the
subset of national identity becomes smaller and smaller, until we get to the family or
individual unit of humanity.
The largest official and external imposition of shared cultural values as to what is
patriotism, national identity, national threat, citizenship, legal or not legal, what is a
crime, and what is encouraged or discouraged on a constitutional national level, is the
national government and all of its institutions. Still, in a nation of three hundred million
people, there is a lot of disagreement, which makes for an ever changing and evolving
national set of cultural values that occupy the time of millions of people.
The next largest official and external imposition of shared cultural values occurs at the
state level. There are natural, social, historical, political and other shared values of the
residents of an individual sovereign nations that constitute the United States. In recent
decades, internal migration, along with standardization of businesses and cultural
elements is such that true state level history and cultures are constantly bombarded by
newcomers who bring their own values with them. The natural features and historical
nature of a particular state can still be quite imposing, however. A person who moves
from New York to Hawaii, for example, will have to adjust some of those cultural values
that worked in New York.
After the state, religion is the next largest source of externally imposed cultural values.
Who is the deity of choice, if a deity is chosen? What does the religion demand of its
followers? What is the mythology or historical nature of the religion, its place in the
world, and the relationship of the religion with other religions? Given the number of
religions and their differences in beliefs and values, plus the religions impact on secular
matters and thought, that it is a miracle that there are; overall, amazing shared overall
cultural values in religion in a nation of over three hundred million people.
As we look at the various sources of externally imposed cultural values, we are actually
looking at an ever changing aggregation of unshared and particular individual values
which are constantly being examined in order to determine where the significant areas of
agreement and disagreement lie in a national set of shared cultural values. America's
efforts in developing polling, census, voting and other aggregations of information have
resulted in readings that identify specific values, any changes, and the prevalence of
specific values by region and even by household, and their resulting impact on the nation
as a whole.
Two wars are being fought in Pakistan: a military one against the violence of religious
extremists, and a psychological and emotional one to resist a more insidious change in
society itself the growth of intolerance, a drift toward the right and a decline in room

Cultural values
for cultural, religious, ethnic or social diversity. This shrinkage of public space, or
Talibanization, as the social scientist Ayesha Siddiqa puts it, is not violence itself, but
creates support for “ideas which eventually feed violence.”
Pakistani Culture is very unique in terms of its social and ethical values. These values are
something which are given due importance. This culture revolves around the religion of
Islam which teaches equality among every human being that exists on this planet.
Pakistan's culture is very diverse. It has been invaded by many different people belonging
to different races. These people include the white Huns, Persian Arabs, Turks, Mongols,
and various Eurasian groups. These groups differ in there way of dressing, food, religion.
Pakistani culture consists of different cultures starting from the Punjabis and sindhis to
the tribal cultures of the easternmost Pakistani provinces. Now these cultures have
strongly been influenced by surrounding cultures of India, Central Asia and the Middle
East along with other places.
Pakistani society is largely multilingual and multicultural. There are some similarities
than differences that can be found as most Pakistanis belong to Aryan heritage. Like
sindhis and Punjabis obviously have a language difference. Traditional family values are
known every where in this multicultural environment. The rural areas of Pakistan are still
dominated by their own tribal customs dating back hundreds of years.
Today due to globalization, Pakistani culture is largely influenced by the western society.
Our traditional dress is shalwar kamiz which is mostly turned in to shirt and trousers.
This main influence is due to the fact that many Pakistani are living abroad and they
come back with this change. Many restaurants from other countries have started business
in Pakistan and are making a lot business here. Media has played a wide role in bringing
this change. There are many channels of different countries that we can see these days.
This is something that is to some extent positive and negative also. Positively the new
generation gains knowledge while negatively they are attracted to it and want to bring it
in to practice. Indian movies can be seen here in Pakistani cinemas and Pakistani movies
can be seen in India. This is positive in terms of Indu Muslim Relations but Indian culture
can not be accepted here. Some major differences occur. Like they worship Gods
consider them as statue stone. We believe in one God and it's a belief within our souls.
We do not make statues. Like movies our industry is not well known but we still do make
We are doing almost everything done in other parts of the world. Large number of
Pakistanis lives in other parts of the world like UK, United States, Canada, Australia as
well as the Scandinavian nations. Large number Pakistanis are also living in Middle East.
These emigrants and their children influence Pakistan culturally and economically by
traveling to Pakistan and returning and investing there. At the same time there is also a
reactionary movement in Pakistan which wants to move away from these changes made
by the western influence in Pakistan. This group is strongly conflated with Islam and is
on a strong mission.

Cultural values
A famous writer Robert Sylvester remarks that:
“A child in a living room in which nothing has changed in days will thus focus on TV or
video games and their emotionally arousing and continually changing environments. The
more the environment deviates from normality, the more attractive it is to a developing
brain that must explore and master many recognition and response strategies!”
People now a days have a great access to all kinds of information and thus are connected
to each other regardless of the geographical boundaries via a number of sources where
electronic media has the biggest share as the world is becoming a global-village,
especially when we talk about Pakistan where the poverty is high having people with low
per capita income, where by giving just Rs.400 per month to cable operators more than
50 channels could be enjoyed leaving the minds to see dreams as a virtual reality form for
the whole month. Not just in Pakistan but all over the world electronic media is
progressing and is diffusing widely like fire. Amid globalization, Nation states need to
preserve their culture as their identity. The cable TV, Internet and satellites have acted as
catalyst in bulldozing the cultural boundaries. All these technologies have changed the
mind set of ordinary people. Changes haven’t taken place not only in quality of life but
also in social architect of society, Cultural values (for which India is known), have
changed due to liberalization and globalization. As a result global culture is emerging.
The effects of cable TV on children are both positive and negative… most of the children
are attracted towards Indian TV channels because their language is about same but there
is a lot of difference in their cultural and ethical values. So there is a great difference in
their programs also. Children are very much attracted towards the glamorized Indian
programs. When they watch there is a different life style and culture they get confuse
because there is a lot of difference between the environment they watch on TV and in
which they live. As a result they start adopting different things from TV with out knowing
its impact! Even small kids when see their channels they will start doing the same acts
like they say some words like Namste or evolving the plate like an Aarti Thali.
Secondly they are promoting dance culture in our society. We are inspired from their
dance programs like NACH BALIYE AND JHALAK DIKHLA JA. Now we want
programs of their type on our television like Indian channels introduce INDIAN IDOL
we have SANGEET ICON which has the same theme and format. So we are just copying
their style of programs and culture.
Turning towards sex and violence issues, the vulgarity in these channels is increasing
which could be seen as a result in the changing lifestyle of today’s youth. When we come
to our media channels they are doing the same it seems like Indian channel are nowadays
the trend setters, whatever they show in their channels it seems to be sure that it is going
to be a main new norm of our media channels so we can say that it is not only effecting
the youth but effecting our media as well. For that parents should take care that what their
child are seeing because they know that what would be the outcome. But if they banned
