It was formerly a company selling photographic paper and equipment before it changed to current products. In the recent past, the company has faced several organizational structural problems leading to very poor performance. It was reported that Chief Executive Officer, Ursula Burns, had failed to implement better ways of cutting costs (McIntyre, 2014) leading to loss-making instead of profit. The company nearly ran into bankruptcy in the early 2000’s before it was rescued by the change of Chief Executive Officer. In the report given by Burns, it is clear that the price share of Xerox is still low despite having improved on the market share and profit (Zarroli, 2009). This case study is aimed at determining some ways to help the company improve its performance. First, flattening the hierarchy is the process by which a company eliminates or merges some of its layers of management to form a one-level organizational structure. It is advantageous since it promotes cohesion in an organization.
