Racial Interactions
Human perceptions are based on social environments and external environmental stimuli
are the catalysts in learning graphs of human beings. Television is an unavoidable source of
information in current globalized modern world and it has become a necessity in everyday life.
TV played vital role in shaping the perceptions and culture of society especially in racism.
Television interactions are mainly focused on stereotyping races by presenting one race
to be dominant and better than the other with more contributive responsibilities in nation’s
progress. The contribution of white people in television interactions have been significantly more
than black people whether it be news channels, sports broadcast, or art media. In movies and
drama serials, the blacks are shown to be domestic servants whereas white people dominate the
race by being warriors and political leaders. Few news debates that invite black minorities to
present their point of view are mostly stereotyped and generalized people who focus on already
existing point of view about their race. The commercial television programs have a purpose to
attract more audience and high ratings with providing enjoyable entertainment to general public
which the producers and hosts conveniently achieve by debating on the stereotyping on
particular races. Plus, the television programs support the perspectives of majority class. For
example, majority of viewers in America are white people and so the program content is
supportive to their perspectives for commercialized means and profits. Political capitalists and
investors do not feel comfortable to present grounded realities about lifestyles and values of
particular races because it would negatively affect their social and political status [Encyclopedia
(2015)]. Television interactions are unable to communicate the interests and needs of minority
races productively due to which the poverty rate and crime rate in minorities is greater than those
in majority. Television is the biggest media tool available in modern popular culture and

opinions from this media have diversified effects on every individual [Vendantam, S. (2008)].
TV advertising broadcast various whitening creams for everyone which gives a feeling as if
being black is not beautiful or attractive with more sense of inferiority complex.
Real life interactions are completely different from media stereotyping because real
interactions provide real picture and credible substance to base the judgments about races. Real
life interactions are based on personal experiences and perceptions.
Real and Television Interactions
Because television plays vital role in shaping these perceptions and so our daily life
interactions with cross races seem to be influenced by the visual substance injected upon us
through television. Firstly, the content from television shapes our opinions and perspectives
about other races and as we communicate personally, our opinions reflect our thoughts. The
feelings of hate and dominance towards minority races affect the bonds of friendship and
harmony negatively and we tend to accept it without critically pondering over it. White people
tend to have different perspectives of progress as compared to blacks. Black people measure
progress on the basis of their necessities to survive whereas white people measure progress with
how much they have saved. These progress perceptions are primarily shaped through content on
media, especially television [Vendantam, S. (2008)].
Our personal interactions are influenced when we decide about the educational career,
sports activities or professional workplaces for ourselves and for our children. When we debate
about these, we have the stereotyped mindset that these particular careers are chosen by a
particular race. For example, Black people are considered to be natural athletes in basketball.
Similarly, when negotiating pay rate with our employer, the salary offered by the employer to a
