Perception of Leadership
The assessment results have helped me establish the various areas I need to focus on to
enhance my interprofessional skills. These include areas that I scored very low in the assessment,
including leadership traits and leadership styles. One of the areas I need to focus on is deciding the
leadership style to use according to various situations. According to Rahbi, Khalid & Khan (2017),
leadership styles choice depends on the needs associated with decision making in different
circumstances and the team being led. Similarly, I will focus on understanding the need to value
people over the system in leadership to enhance commitment and build trust with the team.
McNeff & Irving (2017) note the importance of placing the interest of the people being led first
by valuing, respecting, developing employees, and creating a community to achieve the
organization's goal.
Similarly, I need to focus on the traits and characteristics that could limit effective
leadership. One of the skills I need to improve is conflict solving to avoid conflicts when my needs
are not met. Conflict is inevitable in any organization due to the differences in values, views, and
poor communication, and hence conflict management skills are significant as a leader and a team
member (Chandolia & Anastasiou, 2020). Also, in establishing that organizational change is
inevitable and developing skills to accommodate change and influence change as a leader.
Therefore, it is important to develop a strategic approach to influence change among team
members as a leader.
The assessment will help guide my teamwork in various ways. The assessment has helped
me establish the areas I need to improve to be a good leader and a team player, for instance, in
establishing the need for flexibility as a leader in choosing the leadership style according to the
