Mbevo1 FEDERAL VERSUS REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT The difference between Federal Government and Republican Government A Federal government is a system of governance where powers are divided between a national government, which is usually stronger, and smaller local governments. Some areas of governance are delegated to the local governments while the bigger issues are left in the hand of the national government. An example of a Federal government is the United States of America (USA), where the powers of the National Government include but not limited to, defense, tax collection, commerce regulation, money borrowing, declaring wars, creating currency, and creating lower courts. The local (State) governments deal with issues like the establishment of local governments, establishment and maintenance of schools, conducting elections, provision for public safety, and regulating trade within States. On the other hand, a Republican Governance is a system of governance where a country is ruled by representatives chosen by citizen body to represent them in governance. Therefore, citizens do not govern the country themselves but the representatives do so, on behalf of the citizens. Nepal is a good example of a Republican country.
