Title VII
Title VII can be defined as a provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that strives to
eradicate discrimination in virtually all employment circumstances. According to the Federal
Trade Commission (n.d.), Title VII seeks to safeguards all job applicants and employees from
any form of employment discrimination based on religion, race, national origin, sex, and color.
The provision applies to the entire spectrum of employment decisions, including selections,
recruitment, terminations, as well as other decisions that concern terms and conditions of
payment (Federal Trade Commission, n.d.). As a result, employers have no choice but to
consider only objective, job-related criteria as they make employment decisions.
Employers can avoid racial discrimination when recruiting by ensuring the entire process
strictly adheres to EEO principles. Measures should also be put in place to diversify and widen
the pool of candidates considered for an opening in the workplace. This should also apply to job
positions in managerial positions. Employers should also ensure that Human Resource managers,
as well as other parties involved in the recruitment process, are well-trained on EEO laws (U.S.
Equality Employment Opportunity Commission, n.d.). Similarly, there is a need to promote
cultural diversity in the workplace, as well as an inclusive culture that makes the work
environment conducive for all employees. This can be achieved by encouraging professionalism
and respect for individual differences.
