As defined by the Project Management Institute (2013), a PMO is a management structure that is tasked with providing support for the management of a project or a set of projects within an organization. As such, the project management is often an important part of all phases of the project management including planning, design, and implementation, among others. This paper explores the roles of the PMO from a planning perspective. Project planning definition Every project requires good planning for successful completion. In this case, planning of the project comprises of a set of procedural steps that detail the different phases of project management and the way in which the project will be completed under a set of defined parameters, and with the time, cost, and quality being the most important of these parameters (Serrador, 2015). As has been reported by the Project Management Insight (2013), some of the functions of the PMO including oversight and other forms of governance, facilitation of resource sharing, and providing the techniques, methodologies, and tools that should help in the course of project management.
