1. Think about a group that you are a member of, and describe the stage of development that
your group is currently in. Does the development of this group seem to be following the forming-
storming-norming-performing-adjourning stages described in the chapter? Why or why not?

by members of the cleaning staff who are responsible for keeping all common areas and guest
rooms spotless?
3. Discuss why it is important for human resources management systems to be in sync with an
organization's strategy and goals and with each other.
The stages of development of group include forming, storming, norming, performing and
adjourning. The first stage is forming phase which means individuals are formed into group of
functioning team. The second stage is storming stage where subgroups also form, here many of
the groups fail because difference is working style which often leads to conflicts. Norming stage
means all the group members takes the responsibility of tasks and performance. Performing stage
means where people work towards accomplishment of organizational as well as individual goals,
without any conflicts. The adjourning stage which means the task assigned is completed. The
group follows the stages of group development as it passes through all the phases.
One way to avoid social loafing is assigning room numbers at random, emphasis should be given
to valuable contributions of each staff member, assigning the individuals to groups on the basis
of contributions made by them, by reducing the member in the group, extra staff should not be
hired than required.
Human resource management includes procurement, development, integration, maintenance,
compensation, to employee within an organization. The human resource management system
should be in coordination with organization goals and strategies to enhance the effectiveness,
innovation, quality and response to customers. Employees in all the organizations should be
given training about skills and knowledge they need for the work to be done, and should be
motivated to perform better at all the levels.
