Chapter 15 - Multiple Linear Regression

This assignment is worth 5 points and 5% of your total course grade.

I recommend that you complete all Chapter 15 lectures and homework before attempting this Lab

exercise; however, you can also choose to start the lab and work on the parts you are already

comfortable with. This lab is structured in a sequence that follows that of the learning objectives.

Since this is a lab assignment, you MUST use Microsoft Excel to solve the problem. You must use Data

Analysis and MS Excel functions to perform calculations whenever possible. Within Excel, be sure to

label all values and calculated values clearly. Copy and paste relevant excel output on this assignment.

Do not paste the actual data within this document.

Be sure to write in all required information below each question; you will NOT receive credit if you only

turn in the excel output. Your answers must be complete in order to receive credit. Always ask yourself:

Does my answer make sense? If I show my results and conclusion to my supervisor(s) and colleagues,

will they understand my conclusions? Also, remember to use professional/business writing.

To do:

1. Download the MS Word Document and the MS Excel dataset for this assignment. Rename each

of the two documents with your last name and first name (i.e., Marculetiu.Alina.docx).

2. This is an individual assignment; treat it as a take-home, open book, open notes test. You must

TURN IN YOUR OWN WORK! Do not ask for tutoring help directly with this assignment. Find a

similar problem in the textbook and ask tutors (or a friend) to help you with it. You may ask me

(Alina) questions about this lab during scheduled Zoom sessions. I will happily guide you or show

a similar example, but I will not confirm whether your results are correct/incorrect. This

approach will help you LEARN the material and will prepare you for the exam and life.

3. Follow the prompts and answer all questions. Take a look at the grading rubric for the

assignment to understand how points are allocated.

4. When complete, upload both files in the Lab #6 assignment within the same attempt. You must

Treadmills Case:

Consumer Reports provided extensive testing and ratings for 100 treadmills. An overall performance

score, based primarily on ease of use, ergonomics, exercise range, and quality, was developed for each

treadmill tested. In general, a higher performance score indicates better performance. The dataset in

the excel file named “Treadmills.xlsx” contains data on the price, overall performance score, and quality

rating for the treadmills (Consumer Reports, February 2018).

0. Create dummy variables for “Quality”. Use “Very Good” as your base. Use Data Analysis in MS

excel to run a multiple regression analysis to try to predict the price of treadmills using

performance score and quality as predictors. Paste the output (as a picture) below. Include the

Summary output, the ANOVA table, and the coefficients table.
