This number could be even higher than that as many individuals who are infected of this HCV are not aware of their status (Denniston, Jiles, Drobeniuc, Klevens, Ward, McQuillan & Holmberg, 2014). Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the guidelines that all the individuals that were born between 1945 and 1965 should go for HCV infection screening. Around 73% of HCV patients were born between 1945 and 1965, screening the people of those ages makes it easy to identify the patients, before this guideline was enforced; clinicians were forced to go through the list of risk factors to determine if the person is to be screened for HCV (Lee, Kudose, Jackups & Anderson, 2018). These risk factors included, organ transplant or blood transfusion before 1992, knowing if the patient was born in a high endemicity country to HCV infection like Egypt, HIV infection, sexually transmitted diseases and HCV-positive mothers.
