Due to this challenge, she communicates mainly through gestures and produces phenome sequences that are marked with two syllables. A comparison of the infant’s expressive and receptive language would show potential major delays and skills level that is representative of those displayed by 9-12 months olds on the Rossetti Infant-Toddler Language Scale (RITLS) (Singleton & Shulman, 2014). Once this aspect of the assessment process is completed, Josephine’s ability to use spontaneous vocalization or babbling would be tested to determine her capacity to imitate spoken words that are common for infants of her age.
