Survey research is a commonly used research method, which entails the use of
quantitative data collection methods to find answers from a specific population. The primary
components of a survey include target population, survey location, sample space, and questions
(Williams, 2019). The researcher defines the data needed, establishes the target group
(respondents), formulate questions, defines the survey frame(location), and finally compile the
data for analysis (Williams, 2019). For instance, if I was a research my research topic will
address the emerging issues in healthcare. My topic will be “The impact of artificial
intelligence and machine learning in healthcare”. As a healthcare research study, the survey
will be a cross-sectional survey, which focuses on a small sample size.
The survey will entail healthcare questions regarding the impact of AI and machine
learning. The target population and survey frame will focus on specialized physicians in
developed countries. The respondents will be a target group that works hand-in-hand with AI
and machine learning in healthcare. Data analysis using statistical methods will help in
determining the impact of AI and machine learning in healthcare.
A good sample is essential in defining the attributes of a whole population in survey
research. Thus, selecting a substantial sample size without bias is crucial is paramount when
addressing a healthcare research topic. A sample bias could lead to misrepresentation of the
target population. For instance, a misrepresentation of the population can occur when the target
group is inadequately represented or when the correspondents are unable or unwilling to
provide answers for the survey questions. The undercoverage sample bias can be avoided by
defining the survey frame, that is, the location and target population, and matching it with the
actual population. The issue of non-response can be solved by following up on respondents and
avoiding long questions during interviews.
