1. Heredity
- Personality is a product of heredity and environment
- The way we learn to handle the reaction of others.
- The traits which are genetically inherited that influences in shaping the personality.
2. Culture
- The values and customs in which a person is surrounded.
- Tends to shape the personal values
- People in different cultures develop different personalities according to their culture.
3. Family
- The early life of a person also affects the development or personality.
- The protection, guidance and restrictions in bought up affect the development of different
characteristics of an individual.
4. Environment
- The physical or social environment the person is surrounded also determines the
personality.
- Having the sense of deprivation and enrichment is important for shaping up a personality.

DIMENSIONS OF PERSONALITY
1) Extroversion
2) Agreeableness
3) Conscientiousness
4) Neuroticism
5) Openness
There are five dimensions of personality which could help in measuring the personalities of people
1) Extroversion: the extroverts are the people who are very sociable, energetic, optimistic, friendly
and assertive. The opposite of extroversion is introvert.. These are the people who do not
express such characteristics.
2) Agreeableness : people who are high on agreeable dimension are helpful, trusting, sympathetic
and cooperative… the opposite of agreeableness is antagonism which posses characterestics like
suspiciousness and fighting for their interest and belief.
3) Conscientiousness: conscious people are organized. Directed and self disciplined. The people of
opposite of this are unorganized and not disciplined.
4) Neuroticism: this dimension places people according to their emotional stability and personal
adjustments. And have negative emotions like sadness, anger and anxiety. Individuals who are
low in neuroticism are calm, well adjusted and not vulnerable to emotional reactions .
5) Openness: this refers to openness to experience the people who are placed in this dimension
have active imagination, desire to consider new ideas and divergent thinkin… people who are
low in openness are very conventional and not independent thinkers.
PERSONALITY DEVOLOPMENT
It means the development of organized patterns of behavior and attitude which makes a person
impressive or distinctive.
