1-13 Problem Identification
The essential side of UPS operation charges obsolete technology and guided procedure,
thus the likelihood of increased misloaded packages. The outdated technology initiated
inefficiency in performing the final scan to approve if all the parcels were appropriately kept on
the right track. Therefore, delivery delays were experienced since errors in packaging prompted
the customers to wait for the upcoming delivery, thus proving uncertainty in strategic planning.
Directing the outbound packages was relatively inefficient since seasonal workers were not
informed about the company's sorting facilities despite hiring up to 100 000 workers between
November and January. The need for the workers to memorize over a hundred zip codes to
initiate efficacy in packaging promotes organizational inefficiency in enhancing consumer
satisfaction. The chest cooler with a one-word command for red, green, and blue designated belts
initiates organizational Problems on an occasion when the conveyor belt goes wrong. Since the
conveyor belt system is open, uncertainty in the command relents to conveyor belt mistracking,
thus blockages in the delivery of packages.
There were managerial challenges in understanding the exact number of undeliverable
packages upon arrival since the old technology was not integrated with an effective system to
facilitate the process. The management could therefore not effectively plan their operation in
shifts while rerouting the packages. Information concerning the state of the products was not
well displayed for processing by the staff to achieve the highest efficiency. Until the introduction
of the UPS processing facility, the management had to relent historical information and radio
conversations in estimating to define the number of undelivered packages. This approach proved
unreliability in shipping the volume of products across the facilities, thus low savings for the
