Bluebird Case Study Analysis
Bluebird is a home health care agency that started as a small business developed
from compassion for patient care and dedicated workers. Robin started this company and had a
few dedicated followers that she could depend on as the business grew. A growing business has
changed Robin’s priority’s from patient care and employees, to maintain the growing numbers.
Robin can only depend on one long-time employee, Terry who agrees with her policies and
procedures. Robin also has two family members who work for Bluebird, her son, and son-in-law.
She has a newer employee that seems to challenge her and makes suggestions for policy changes.
Robin does not do well with conflict in the workplace and feels as though her suggestion for
change is a conflict.
Chaleff’s Follower Typology
Chaleff (2008) created a follower typology to provide a visual reseparation of the
significant characteristics of the role that followers provide in the leadership process. The
typology also distinguishes differences between challenge and support behavior within the
follower (Chaleff & Lipman-Blumen, 2008). The four styles indicated by Chaleff (2008) are
implementer, partner, resource, and individualist.
Terry
(Implementer)
Caleb
(Partner)
James
(Resource)
Blinda
(Individualist)
