Family Issue
Family issues can man manifest in any family leading to challenging, painful and
frustrating interactions among family interactions. The most common is marriage problems
especially when one spouse has behavioral issues that significantly affect the entire family. In the
case study, one parent has mental health issues that have been a challenge to the entire family. T
family consists of a 35-year-old Caucasian woman married to a 42-year-old Asian man. The two
have two 12-year-old biracial children. They also live with one an 80-year-old grandma with
Parkinson's disease. Parent B stopped seeking treatment for his bipolar disorder since he
culturally does not believe in mental health. This has significantly affected the family with parent
A wanting a divorce since the man is emotionally fatigued, there is a lack of communication and
the man is no longer the breadwinner of the family. Instead of seeking help Parent B has resorted
to alcohol abuse and acts out impulsively. These issues have led to poor performance for the
children in school and the prospect of divorce.
Applying Family Therapy
Family therapy was created to help families to come together and address their issues.
The treatment course is often brief and most family therapy techniques seek to address individual
issues interfering with family system cohesiveness and the communication styles of the family
(Carr, 2019). In family therapy, the therapists will start by having a meeting with the entire
family then later meet with individual family members separately. The first session will be for
gathering information to provide the therapist an appropriate time to learn about the family
problem, observe family dynamics and get the opinions of every member (Lebow, 2019). The
therapist should get a clear sense of his or her competency and role, rules observed during
