floor to match the floor in the living room. Able charges $2.89 per square foot to
sand and refinish a hardwood floor. The dining room is rectangular and measures
17 feet 8 inches by 11 feet 8 inches. Note: It is common for service companies to
round dimensions up to the next foot before calculating.
Part A: Able would estimate the area of the dining room floor as 216 square feet.
Part B: Able would charge $624.24 for sanding and refinishing the dining room
floor.
2) Bob and Carol want to put the wallpaper on two adjacent walls in the dining room.
Both walls are each 8 feet high.
Part A: Bob and Carol would estimate the area of the two walls as 240 square feet.
Part B: If a roll of wallpaper can cover 35 square feet and 5% must be added to
allow loss due to trimming, cutting, and matching, Bob and Carol would

Part C: A local store is running a sale of 20% off on wallpaper. If a roll of blue
prepasted classic wallpaper normally costs $34.96, calculate the total
charge for the wallpaper, including the 7.5% tax? Round to two decimal

3) A neighbor told Bob that he should apply a protective sealant to the driveway. Bob
found a product at the home improvement store that comes in a tub for $26.99 and
covers 300 square feet. Disregarding tax, which of the following is the best
