Introduction with a problem statement Although many strategies have been used in preventing patient falls, it remains one of the most devastating problems facing the healthcare sector. According to Cruz et al. (2014), bed alarm, which has been the major strategy of combating patient falls, is not as effective in preventing patient falls, necessitating that alternative and more superior strategies be used. Chu (2017) puts forward that purposeful hourly rounding of patients can be a better alternative, and has proven to have higher success rates as compared to the use of bed alarm. Bed alarm have had many downsides including the failure to ring the bell when the bell is faulty, the alarm gadget being far placed where frail patients cannot easily reach them and the tendency of the alarm signal disorienting and instilling fear and shock among patients. It thus has many downsides that make it an ineffective strategy in preventing patient falls.
