The slavery abolishment sentiment was fueled by enlightenment with an aim to foster natural rights, freedom, and progress. Slave trade was entrenched amongst Europeans in early fourteen century to early eighteen. The trade involved capture and sale of African to European countries such as Portuguese, France, and Great Britain and also to the United States. The African slaves were treated inhuman and unethically in foreign countries. They were forced to hard labor without rest which amounted to trespass of human rights. During the enlightenment period, in the year 1804, many nations including France, Great Britain, and the United States outlawed the slave trade (Coleman, 2005). This was a very interesting turn around since this was the leading countries in the trade, but now opposing role. This vividly explains the sudden rise in the antislavery sentiment in Enlightenment Europe. Most of this anti-slavery enlightenment sediment came from religious groups. The slavery abolishment move was sphere headed by English members of religious society friends by the name Quakers, as well as some English religious groups with egalitarianism and pacifism tradition.
