The experimental method involves variable manipulation to ascertain cause and effect
correlations. The fundamental features of experimental techniques are the controlled method
and participants’ allocation into experimental and controlled groups. Researchers prefer the
experimental design while making a population’s predictions because such experiments are
objective. Meaning, the researcher’s opinions, and views do not affect the study’s outcomes
(McLeod, 2012). Consequently, the data emanating from the experimental design method is
valid and less biased.
The advantages and disadvantages of experimental and correlation research methods
Correlation method
Advantages
Correlation research permits individuals to gather more data than experiments since
it occurs outside the lab, and the outcomes are more applicable to everyday life.
Additionally, the correlation research method opens up research to other scholars. It offers
an excellent starting position and allows researchers to establish the strength and direction
of a relationship. Another advantage is that the variables that are being studied are not
manipulated. The researcher will also get several methods of data collection and the results
are pretty easy to classify.
Disadvantages
Correlation research only tackles a relationship and never provides a decisive reason
for why a relationship exists. Additionally, it doesn’t disclose the variables that influence
others, and researchers only make assumptions, they will not be able to know which has the
