Case Study Analysis Report
Introduction
This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the problems associated in Carl Robins' case study. To
my understanding the result from my report can be summarized easily with lack of communication and
organization. Communication and organization are a must in most aspects of life, but are required skills
in any career field. When we miss these areas many problems can arise. Issues that emerge due to the
absence of information, coordination and organization, can be easily avoided. When you are planning
your career or a big life event, following through with your plan and schedule are key for the success of
any event, whether is life or job related.
B. Background
When organizing a "needed by date" recruitment event you should have the capability to believe that, in
fact, you will recruit people, even if in reality you do not. It is of extreme importance to prioritize and
organize yourself when a big event is in the plans. Also, putting together a team will help you delegate in
areas where you feel comfortable letting someone else handle or in areas that you do not have much
expertise. To me was crucial to get a real life opinion in regards to the subject. I decided to interview my
sister Ivonne Valentin, former Human Resources recruiting supervisor for Home Goods Distribution
Center in Bloomfield, CT. We talked about the steps to take in order to avoid issues when planning a
recruitment event. She mentioned that prioritizing is very important skill and it entails that before an
event is fulfilled the person in charge of the event should do the following:
Organize a team to make sure the event goes smoothly from the early planning stages to the end.
Time and plan every stage of the event with your team.
Schedule the training room for the training of new employees.
Verifying that all the necessary applications are available and ordering if not available.
Ordering or printing the necessary training material. (I. Valentin, personal communication, April 12,
2014).
Key problems
Keeping in mind the steps mentioned above by an experienced recruiter, we can see with clarity the
areas were Carl Robins in his limited experience failed to address. Been in the recruiter position for six
months for ABC, Inc., did not give him all the knowledge he needed at the time of planning this event.
He planned his first recruitment event in April, and needs to have the employees started by July.
Everything seemed to be running smoothly, but later in May Carl discovered several issues. Among the
problems he encounters, were missing applications and transcripts, missing orientation manuals, failure
to request the mandatory drug screen to all new hires and the most important issue is that there is no
place to conduct the trainings in June, because the training room was already scheduled for technology

training. Carl had enough time to fulfill this event without any glitch, but because he did not
communicate well with the rest of key employees, nor he requested assistance with the event, now he
has to go into fixing mode. Is not the time to panic is the time to ask for help, organize, coordinate,
delegate and communicate.
Alternatives
According to Encyclopedia of Business in Today's World (2009), leadership is a process whereby an
individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. That is exactly what Carl needs to
do, take charge and leadership and assemble a team together to make sure all areas are covered and
ready for the new hires training in June. This team should be people that you, as a leader, trust that can
help you fix the needed areas, fulfill what is missing and avoid any future issues. Also, because this takes
more time that is out of your control it should be a priority to request all applicants to get their drug
screening done. In an ideal setting applicants should start training sessions after the drug results have
been received and employers should have at least a three week window, in case any applicant does not
qualify for work.
Proposed Solutions
I found in the Oxford English dictionary, that organization in this context means "The action or process
of organizing, ordering, or putting into systematic form; the arrangement and coordination of parts into
a systematic whole” ("Organization," n.d.). While researching about business organization I encounter
this phrase that caught my eye, "Own your job from top to bottom, don't follow up; follow through"
(Pawlak, 2007). I believe it is important to step up and out of your comfort zone to achieve your goals,
with that in mind the next step would be to find an appropriate place to conduct the trainings. First
choice is always in the building, looking into other conference rooms that will hold the capabilities
needed to fulfill the trainings. If no space is available, then trying to get into an agreement or
compromise between you and Joe, who had scheduled the room for new software implementation
training. If no compromise or adjustment can be made with Joe and the software implementation, then
an outside space must be rented in order to maintain the timeframe of the recruits. If that is the only
option, then a budget must be made as soon as possible to cover for that expense. , Although, it may
not look good for you as the recruiter and person in charge of handling this recruits to request an
extension on new hires starting date, but it is still an alternative if nothing else works. If we look into the
case study the recruitment event was in April, Carl noticed all the issues late May. He has approximately
two weeks to arrange for everything to get done and still be able to start training sessions by June 15th.
At this point, the company may have to arrange for a rush delivery of drug screening results or
compromise and allow recruits to start training after getting the screening done. Of all the issues
encountered, the least problematic issue is the missing of training material, most likely this can be order
or printed in the business.
Recommendations
In conclusion, I have to say that Carl had enough time to complete everything in time without any
glitches, but the lack of experience, communication, organization and coordination, were missing key
skills that would have made this event run smoothly. I strongly believe that tackling the trouble areas in
the order mentioned above will help in the process of repairing the damage done. A good guideline to
follow for future events is to first assemble your team and have a clear view of the timeframe in which
