Introduction
Workforce diversity is a concept that has existed for many years in organizations.
Notably, differences can be found amongst different groups of people in the workforce and it
calls for strategic leadership to manage variations in the organization. Throughout decades and
centuries, the civilization of mankind has been characterized to include individuals who vary
from each other in terms of race, gender, age, physical ability, class, and sexual orientation
(Inegbedion, et al., 2020). Modern organizations are no exception in any way because the
workforce is increasingly becoming more diverse due to changing demographics,
internationalization, and globalization. Shrinking of the borders and growth in population are
causing shifts in the national, international, and local demographics (Itam, & Ghosh, 2020).
Nowadays, advanced transportation networks make it possible for individuals to travel to
different parts of the world to look for greener pastures. For organizations to remain competitive
in the current marketplace environment, they are hiring a diverse workforce to handle the
pressures of operating in a globalized marketplace. Essentially, organizations that hire a
competitive and quality workforce regardless of education, age, attitude, language, sex, culture,
religion, and ethnicity do well in the global marketplace (Crouch, 2015). That being said, the
purpose of this paper is to discuss the importance of workforce diversity in promoting a
competitive advantage to a firm.
Overview
Diversity of workforce in organizations is interested in bringing abilities and talents of
the different employees on board. The most successful organizations are the ones that are ready
to apply a wide range of resources to ensure they have the capability of managing workplace
