1. List The Stressor That You Selected from The List.
The stressor I selected from the list is domestic violence.
2. What Are Two Possible Impacts of This Stressor in Adults AND Children? Be Specific,
In Your Explanation, How It Affects Children and How It Affects Adults.
Domestic violence negatively affects both children and adults. Physical fights and abuse
are some of the common domestic violence experienced in families. Upon the occurrence of such
conflicts, adults and children are impacted differently. For instance, children who witness
violence for a given period might develop a mental illness such as posttraumatic stress disorders
and possibly a change in behavior such as being violent in the near future. Adults affected by
domestic violence are mostly women. Here, they are likely to develop depression and
posttraumatic stress disorders (Almış, Gümüştaş & Kütük, 2020). Depression and posttraumatic
stress disorder is a common occurrence in both children and adults. Unlike children, adults are
not likely to change their behaviors but live in great fear.
Generally, domestic violence impacts the mental health and quality of life of both
children and adults. Regarding mental health, children and adults exposed to frequent wars in
their families are not always at peace. They keep on reflecting on the awful scene witnessed,
resulting in mental illness. According to De Jong, 2016), 8% to 68.9% of children and women
suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder resulting from domestic violence. Nightmares,
insomnia, anxiety, increased alertness are some of the posttraumatic stress disorders conditions
due to frequent occurrence. The above conditions might worsen, particularly in children, if not

handled at early stages. Besides, children grown having in mind violence is part of their lives,
hence have to endure. In such circumstances, children become helpless and often lack positive
progress in their lives.
Depression is another detrimental impact of domestic violence. Children and adults who
witness domestic violence might feel lonely and isolated, thus fall into depression. Ideally, a
normal human being must express sadness and stress in mental torture due to lack of peace. Such
individuals eventually become unproductive in their activities. For instance, children will
indicate poor performance in class while adults will exhibit low performance at the workplace.
When children witness domestic violence at home will feel there is nothing safe in their homes,
resulting in depression. In adults, there is a feeling of hopelessness as there is nothing worth
living for. People who are affected experience persistent feelings and sadness that are hard to
endure. Once sadness has overcome them, the victims lose interest in pursuing other activities or
interacting with close ones. Notably, they want to be left alone, and in the process, overthink.
Further, depressed individuals, as a result of domestic violence, might have endless pain and
chronic headache. Ideally, depression associated with physical and emotional abuse might harm
an individual due to infinite pain. The condition even becomes worse when such people do not
share their predicaments with relatives, friends, or relevant authorities. In this case, a possible
solution to the frequent occurrence of domestic wars can be identified.
3. List and explain three different ideas based on your research (referrals, strategies,
resources) of how teachers or other adults can help the family being exposed to this
stressor
Teachers, adults, or children statutory protection bodies can assist the family in
overcoming the consequences of domestic violence. Teachers tend to interact with children
