Question 1
After reading Tesla’s code of ethics, it leads me to believe that the main problems
experienced within the company are related to unethical behavior from employees. Most of the
codes of ethics refer to employees and the unacceptable actions that may lead to permanent
termination or disqualification. For instance, employees are not supposed to use the training and
skills acquired from Tesla to start their businesses to compete with the company. Also, all
employees are expected to report any unethical behavior by cooperating with internal
investigations. The code also prohibits suspicious activities like money laundering or illegal
transactions from all employees, avoids insider trading, and ensures confidentiality, among other
rules.
Question 2
To me, the code seems to be written mainly for the good of the business. For a business
to be successful, all employees must follow the rules and regulations given by the employer. In
this case, Tesla’s code mainly addresses any illegal activities, unethical behavior, illegal
opportunities, and fraud. When employees follow these rules, the company gains more profit and
succeed in the business. However, failure to adhere to these rules puts the business at risk,
especially when employees disclose confidential information to outsiders, who may become
competitors. Therefore, most of these codes are for the best interest of the business but not
employees.
Question 3
One thing that is problematic in the code is cooperation opportunities. Individuals are not
allowed to take opportunities discovered through Tesla for their gain. Also, they should not take
business plans learned from this company to begin their businesses. The code seems problematic
