PROJECT MANAGEMENT KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT 2
For a project to be well executed and completed in time, knowledge of project
management is essential. Project management entails application of skills in coordination and
control of resources aimed at execution and completion of a project in time. This paper seeks to
discuss the main principles applied in project management and at the same time review the
knowledge areas and provide brief descriptive guidelines on how additional project management
knowledge will be acquired to enable one pass his/her CAPM exam.
The first principle of project management is the project integration management. It
entails marshaling all forms of activities, processes, and resources required to make the
completion of a project a success. The project manager, therefore, has the task of ensuring that
all these are unified through building a strong teamwork in the realization of the project goals
(Larson and Gray 2013). Another principle is the project scope management which involves
documentation of the main goals, objectives as well as the provision of the features of the
project. Additionally, the budget and the duration the project takes is documented. This work is
performed under the guidance of the project manager. Project scope management thus enables
the milestones of a project to be known and achieved within the stipulated deadline.
Another principle is the project time management. This principle stresses on the proper
management of time since time factor plays a vital role in ensuring that the project’s milestones
are met in time to avoid an unplanned rise in the budget. A project cost management is another
principle of project management and it entails estimation of project costs, determination of the
budget, and cost control by the project manager to enhance optimal project cost. The principle of
project quality management, on the other hand, enhances the quality requirement of the project is
adhered to through careful selection of resources (Kerzner, 2009).
