Workplace Civility and Health Discussion
The civility of my workplace
Based on the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, the workplace is healthy. Scores in
the inventory that range from 90 to 100 show that the place being scored is healthy. In the
workplace, there is high civility, and the inventory scores confirm it. Allowing for openness
and proper conflict resolution allows people to avoid violence and other violations that may
result from people disagreeing. The organization's nurse leaders are equipped with proper
conflict resolution skills, and they are usually willing to solve issues among staff and offer
advice. The supervisors also ensure that each person does their job to avoid burdening people
with the role that are other people. For instance, the organization requires that new nurses be
treated respectfully and that each perform avoid bullying others. The staff understands that
people are diverse and that they have to collaborate to achieve good outcomes.
Why the Workplace is Civil
The workplace is civil for several reasons. First, there is adequate communication
among people. From the inventory, the place scored four on the aspect of communication.
While there is room for improvement, the openness of communication enables issues to be
solved before escalation. There are also effective mechanisms of helping people solve
disputes and ensuring that people do not exploit others. Leaders also lead by example and
ensure that they are open and treat people ethically. Also, involving people in governance
processes enables them to be satisfied. Shared governance enables leaders to identify issues
that affect people and collaborate with them to develop solutions that may help improve
outcomes (Clark et al., 2011). The organization also cares for employee rights and needs and
hence does not just treat people like tools. People feel cared for, and hence they like working
there.
