Managing Security Operations
Managing Security Operations consists of the designing, operating and ongoing growth
of an organization’s security capabilities. Management of Security Operations is based on
Security Operations Center. For an organization to achieve this, it must have an effective
Security Operations center (SOC) which has moving parts designed with an ability to adjust to
constraints that are set by an organization. In order for a manage a successful SOC, security
managers are required to provide tactical and strategic direction which informs all staff members
of any changes in threats as well as provide adequate guidance and training to all employees.
For a SOC to be successful, it must go through three processes. They include the design,
deployment and operation of the program (Muniz, Gary & Nadhem n.p). In the design, the
organization comes up with a favorable system that addresses it needs. It must ensure that it
designs the system according to any limitations that exist within its security system. The second
is step is deployment in which the organization puts the designed system to use. Any errors or
unwanted weaknesses are addressed at this point to ensure that the organization has a working
system. The final stage is operation of the system. In this phase, the organization operates the
program through finding any errors and fixing them as well as updating it to meet any changes
