The Billington CyberSecurity Summit
On September 13
th
, 2017, the annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit convened in
Washington to share ideas on how to improve cybersecurity in the future. The summit was
attended by governmental officials who aimed at finding solutions towards enhancing
cybersecurity through providing different ways that the issue can be mitigated (CyberWire n.p).
The first order of business was to name adversaries that pose a threat to cyber security in the
country. Several countries and extremist groups such as ISIS were named although they currently
do not pose a threat. However, the leaders in attendance noted that it would be essential to ensure
that they are kept on tabs and monitored as they still pose a significant threat.
To curb the issue of cybercrime, all in attendance supported the view of information-
sharing to enhance security. The other view was that cybersecurity needs to be approached as an
exercise in risk management and not just as a checklist in compliance. Finally, the attendees also
addressed the issue of artificial intelligence in which they recommended the amount of data that
automated systems should ingest. Artificial intelligence could prove to be a reliable method of
ensuring cybersecurity in the future. However, if not properly managed, they could also prove to
be catastrophic and unreliable.

Based on the Billington CyberSecurity event, it is more than evident to say that this event
will have the most significant impact in the next five years. Advancement in technology calls for
rejuvenated cybersecurity that people and organizations can rely on. The summit helps find
solutions in which countries and organizations can come together to find essential solutions for
the future. The event also allows officials from different countries to meet and discuss any future
steps and views that they feel will improve cybersecurity. Therefore, I believe that this event will
have the most significant impact, mainly if its opinions and proposed solutions are implemented
to help improve cybersecurity.
