MOSS CONSTRUCTION 2
Moss Construction
Situation
Moss Construction is a privately held construction firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. One
of the most valuable assets of the company is the people working for the organization. The
organization understands that a safe workplace equals to a sound business. The primary goal of
the management team in Moss Construction is the prevention of deaths, illnesses, and workplace
injuries. Recently, the court charged a man in Fort Lauderdale with the offense of murdering five
people in the airport next to Moss construction. According to the federal authorities, the twenty-
six-year-old young man opened fire and aimed at the head and body of the victims who
surrounded the airport. Santiago dropped his weapon after a confrontation with the county
deputy of Broward County Sheriff’s department. According to an FBI agent, Santiago executed
the attack on behalf of ISIS. However, it is still unclear whether the attacker was purporting to
have a link to the terrorist group or whether the organization inspired the attacks. Regardless of
Moss Construction recognition and efficiency in their Safety and Health Recognition Program, it
was still difficult to connect immediately with the construction staff during the emergencies.
Todd, the Vice President of the company, feels concerned about operations of the company,
especially during emergencies. The major challenge that Todd has been facing is persuading his
top management team to initiate an integrated program focusing on emergency reactions, which
involves employee development and training. Most importantly, the Vice President is concerned
about additional operations coping strategies (Keith & Simon).
