Role of Disruptive Technology in Public Healthcare
The world has noted the increased number of innovations that have helped in the saving of the
life of the disadvantaged population. Various programs have also been modeled by World Health
Organization in collaboration other health stakeholders like the Centre for Disease Control and
Prevention with an aim to research, evaluate and implement technologies that can transform the
health care of individuals. The primary objective of the disruptive technology is to connect the
disadvantaged people with the doctors to ensuring access to quality healthcare. New technology
like video chat between the doctor and diabetes patients have helped their condition becomes
more economically and quickly. Another technology that has dramatically improved the
healthcare sector is the cancer registry software providing quality data collection, and robust,
reliable, user-friendly abstracting and reporting. Healthcare industry has opened their doors and
is welcoming any low-cost alternatives that are serving the interest of the public and the industry.
The US healthcare services are expensive and inaccessible to the majority of the citizens. This
problem can be solved by opening up this industry to market forces and building a new system
characterized by reduced costs, improved quality of services and great convenience.
Emergency planning involves making of arrangements, plans and procedures for various types of
emergencies. Technology is playing a vital part in the emergency preparations. The first role of
technology in preparation is the forecasting of what could happen in different emergency
situations. After the prediction, the computer technology comes up with the evacuation paths. An

example of a forecasting system is the TAMOS an Australian modeling system. The second role
of technology during the emergency planning is the distribution of training materials to staff.
Even though it is incorporated in paper manuals, modern and technological ways of sending and
distributing information are preferred due to its relatively low cost and ability to reach a large
number of recipients simultaneously.
United Nations and other emergency response team have begun mapping the areas prone to
disasters using satellites imagery, spatial analysis, and GIS. The information acquired is
monitored and analyzed and the occupants communicated to of the danger they are about to face
using mobile technology. These technologies are also used to discover the damages done and
determine the location of victims. The emergency departments must provide a warning on the
possibility of occurrence of national disasters. Its therefore necessary to put in place warning
systems usually the radio broadcast, cable over-ride system, sirens and phone messaging systems
to help in the provision of timely information and early warnings of potential hazards.
Technology has also been offering great support to emergency response through different means.
Emergency response involves the actions taken immediately after the occurrence of an
emergency. Application of technology during emergency response is key to offering emergency
assistance and humanitarian response. The first role of technology is establishing a clear mode of
communication between the various teams involved during the initial stages of the emergency
for mass notification and alert. The system used during this process should also help and guide
the personnel in making their decisions. During the response, it is always important to promptly
identify those who require instant help and their location. Teams are applying the use of tablets
and other technology to identify these people and map the response team and share the
information easily.
