CUMMUNITY CULTURE AND FURTHER RESEARCH 2
Community culture and further research
The culture of my community is one characterized by close social ties across various
community members but with a significant level of independence. This makes it diverse in its
own way. At the same time, every member of the community shows much respect to the
ideologies and views of another. However, the people are highly religious and disregard drug
use. The community varies from middle to high-income. Most of the people in the community
are employed. However, one diverse area is the language as there is a mix of different
languages that present in the area. However, the community believes in the rule of law. One
area that may need to be studied within the community is the behavioral change within the
community based on the country and state’s policy changes.
Although alcohol consumption is prevalent on social grounds and allowed by the
culture, the perception is different in the case of marijuana. Not many people within the
community have agreed with the legalization of marijuana. At the same time, it is very rare to
hear of cases of marijuana consumption within the community. The case is different with
alcohol. Alcohol consumption is common and particularly during social events among
different people. This is despite the two having been legalized within the state. However,
statistically speaking, alcohol consumption contributes to many deaths either directly or
indirectly through accidents, injuries, cancer, and liver cirrhosis, among others (Rehm &
Shield, 2014). Due to the differences in the consumption rates of alcohol and marijuana
within the community despite the two being legalized, it is then necessary to evaluate if the
community’s culture changes relative to policy changes.
