Abstract
During a merger, IT infrastructure integration is an important aspect. Since the
company’s operations are internet based, the planning and execution of IT functions will
influence business continuity and the success of the merger. The lack of physical presence calls
for undisrupted online ordering and delivering of products as per customer needs. Therefore, the
company’s IT infrastructure is a key success determinant. The business runs on a website which
needs to be operational 24 hours a day. The company’s information systems are composed of
operations support systems, Transactional processing systems, Management Support Systems,
and Process control systems. Since the business is online based, information is fundamental for
business survival and for the business’s ability to stay competitive. A warehouse of data is key
and this compromises of all data on products, prices, inventory, and promotions. The business
has also adopted other information tools such as Microsoft dynamics and Point of Sale (POS),
which is useful in recording transactions and data collection. The complexity of the company’s
IT infrastructure calls for considerations of options such as IT team and customer care service
outsourcing or offshoring. Outsourcing and off-shoring IT services makes economic sense and
would ensure transfer of downtime, data confidentiality, and data security risks.
