Healthcare is among the most significant sectors of any country because it affects the
health of the people. Due to its importance, there has been significance spending and reforms on
healthcare which has opened doors for wastage of resources. The first way is through poor
healthcare delivery. Some of the health employees such as doctors and nurses poorly execute
their work by attending to their private business, are negligent and occasionally absent which is
unethical (Berwick, and Hackbarth, 2012). Some institutions have failed to adopt healthcare
practices like patients safety which leads to patients injuries within the institutions.
Another way is embezzlement of resources that are meant for healthcare to individual
pockets. Management of healthcare institutions often takes up the money meant to buy
equipment and pay staff leading to employees demonstrating and downing their tools leading to
patients suffering due to lack of medical attention and even death (Kaplan, 2012). Complexity in
healthcare administration is another way where patients have to go through complex procedures
to access healthcare. People have to spend a lot and go through many unnecessary bureaucratic
procedures in health insurance agencies and the government just to access healthcare which is a
basic need for all individuals.
Healthcare resources are wasted through improper health care coordination when patients
experience disjointed healthcare. Poor transitions from one healthcare system to another have led
to lack of proper function of healthcare institutions such as in dealing with chronic diseases and
other complications. Due to large volumes of transactions and various processes involved, there
is room for fraudulent activities such as claims by insurance companies (Doyle, Graves, and
Gruber, 2015). Lastly, the current healthcare system focuses on treating the sick rather than
