Infant Mortality Rate in India
Introduction
In this report our focus is on a developing country India in view of the Infant Mortality Rate prevalent in the country.
Infant and child mortality rates are measured as one of the consistent markers of feature of life and socio economic
circumstances of a country.
In India there exists a huge bias on state basis and socio economic basis with reference to right to use of health
services and their utilization. It has been one of the major Millenium Development Goal to reduce the infant mortaliity
rate by 2/3 between year 1990-2015. In the wake of this goal, in 2005 National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was
launched by Government of India.
We are going to analyze the data obtained in this demographic factor for the country India. The following graph and
data are obtained.

Analysis of Graphs:
In order to analyse the data, a reconstruction of graph was done to obtain the line of best fit. Below is the data table, in
which we have taken the year 2000 as a starting point 0, and further years are taken with an increase of 1, for instance
2001 is taken as 1, 2002 as 2 respectively. The infant mortality is calculated as the number of deaths of infants under one
year old in a given year per 1,000 live births in the same year.
Further we have calculated the correlation coefficient which is negative, thus indicating that infant mortality is decreasing
every year
