Target has been named one of the biggest retail stores globally and has a workforce of
around 365,000 workers who have led to its massive success over the years. Teamwork is the basis
of Target as a company, and every employee is part of the big picture. Numerous challenges occur
in managing a global teamwork in relation to task and team.
Target has developed a culture whereby tasks are conducted in a team environment. Every
team is given a leader and specific tasks of performances, therefore, they must decide the best
strategies for completing these tasks. Common challenges in such a team setting involve some
people not contributing or contributing very little to the completion of tasks. There are several
measures that can be taken to ensure that the teamwork is completed fairly and efficiently.
Developing team guidelines and dividing the task performances to every person would ensure
everyone plays an equal part (Belbin, 2012).
Target faces task challenges that include underperformance. Underperformance can occur
in a team due to unclear and non-distinct task description. Tasks performed by teams require prior
briefing and the setting of specific goals meant to be achieved through the completion of these
goals. Incentives offered by the target for team task performance pushes employees to work harder
and more efficiently.
Another challenge faced in regards to tasks and teams include incompetent or
underqualified leaders. There are different types of leaderships, and each requires a specific set of
skills for leader's ability to influence. Teams have been known to require a leader who has better
