HEALTH FACILITIES IT SYSTEM 2
Components in Employing I.T in Health Institutions
Introduction
IT systems in health organization are an imperative venture with the advent of new
technologies. This is because information technology system enhances the automation of
different functions in a hospital set up intensifying the capacity of storing and sharing
information among variant department as well as other healthcare facilities. For example, the
adoption of electronic medical record system leads to effective sharing of a patient medical
history among practitioners boosting the effectiveness of care delivery to an ailing person
(Cellucci, Wiggins, & Woodhouse, 2010). Implementing IT system in a healthcare organization
promotes improvement in the overall medical care, increased efficiency, enhanced patient
contentment, the reduction of medical errors, and lowering the medical costs.
Discussion
Reasons Why Some Healthcare Institutions are Reluctant to Implement EMR Systems
Most health organizations are reluctant on implementing the electronic medical record
systems due to a number of reasons. Firstly, some hospital administrators, especially in mid-

because electronic medical record systems are capital intensive due to the required technological
infrastructures, expensive training of the users, hiring IT personnel and the overall maintenance
of the EMR systems. Increased attributable costs due to time requirement by the physicians in
the course of interacting with the system and lowered patient visits during the implementation of
the EMRs, heightens woos by the hospital administration because they affect the bottom line.
Besides, return on the investment is another major concern by the management of the health
