Police Militarization
The police force is formed as a body for the protection of the people. These soldiers are
taken through intensive training on various grounds. Part of what they are trained to do is
handling criminals as well as resistant groups. Another form of training is about the handling of
the various weapons and armor that they use as they offer the services for their protection and as
a mechanism to overcome the target (Onion, 2017).
The act of militarization has great side effects to the society. The force that is used under
such circumstances exceeds the normal society expectation level. Bearing in mind that the police
force has the duty to protect the people against harm, the act of militarization negates this factor
(Brooklier, 2015). The people are subjected to brutality which the opposite of what they expect
from the police.
Another issue is the aim of using such excessive force. In most situations, the people
have experienced massive destruction to personal property as the police try to capture a single
individual. Instead of using their intelligence to capture the target without causing such damage,
they take advantage of the force they have and at the end destroy much property (Murray, 2016).
These tactics leave the question on whether such steps are necessary. People feel more
threatened than protected under such circumstances.
In conclusion, it is important that the police use the training that they received to execute
their duties. The act of militarization should be considered as a threat to the community and not a
way of helping them. The use of excessive power is not a solution to the impending dangers
facing the people rather it acts as a source of despair since the people fear the destruction of their
property.
