It has been said that "a company that deserves a union gets one," suggesting that if proper
leadership and motivation techniques are employed and desirable policies devised, the
workers will not want to unionize. Either agree or disagree with this philosophy. Support
your position and explain what a company could do to create an environment where workers
will not want to unionize.
The belief that unions can create a better working condition in the workplace is what
encourages workers to join unions. In most cases, these workers exhibit dissatisfaction in the
way management treats them, and they seek to address this issue through unions. Pay and
salaries are common issues in union organizing tactics. However, employees are willing to
join unions mainly because of the view that the company they are working in is irresponsible,
unfair, or is offering them poor working environment. Most employers are accountable to

Employers can also eliminate the need for employees union representation by
providing a means of problem resolution. Workers need a comfortable and safe means of
addressing their concerns and getting the issues resolved. Unions offer workers the means of
addressing their issues, therefore, by seeking to resolve grievances at early stages eliminates
the need for employee union representation. Employers can also achieve this by developing
their supervisors who are their ears and eyes. The supervisors should be capable of solving
problems among the employers and get things done and communicated appropriately.
Another critical area employers should be keen to observe fair pay for their employees. They
should market survey workerswages annually, correct inequities and ensure that they
communicate what they are doing with the workers. At the same time, they should maintain
affordability. Lastly, employers should set clear expectations and hold them accountable for

strikes and lockouts). There are other means of impasse resolution that do not involve the use
