MONOTHEISM 2
Monotheism is a kind of belief system that identifies with only one God (Thompson,
2015). The world has different religions that identify with many gods, each having their deity
that they choose to worship. However, monotheists believe in only one God. They believe that
there is only a single creator who brought the world into being and who deserves all the worship.
The concept of monotheism was developed from the Abrahamic religions that are Islam,
Judaism, and Christianity, all of which identity with one God. Judaism was not a monotheist
religion in the beginning as the Israelites were documented as having initially worshipped a kind
of local deity. They worshipped many gods who they believed would serve different purposes in
their lives. However, it turned Monotheistic in nature when Yahweh revealed himself to them.
They now believed that only one God was powerful, and he could redeem and help them more
than the gods they had created for themselves. God cannot be created by man. Buddhists believe
in the concept of cosmogony, which entails the cyclical nature of the universe. In this regard, the
universe is formed, endures and ultimately disintegrates before the formation of a new universe.
They believe that the universe is slowly evolving, and many things are being extinct or ending
because they have to completely go when a new universe is formed.
