Organizational Culture
Introduction
Individual cultural background has a significant impact in the entire culture of an
organization. There are a number of factors that shape individual cultural orientations in a given
environmental setup. For example, political affiliations, sexual orientations, human ability to
perform tasks and other social norms do determine individual culture within an organization
(Barney, 1986). For any organization to gain a competitive edge in any industry, there is need to
streamline the management of diversified workforce; which is highly associated with improved
organizational culture. It is of cardinal impact to appreciate the fact that people within an
organization have different cultural backgrounds thus end up executing assigned tasks in their
own version.
Personally, my cultural background is a combination of many elements. I have a set of
unique values, symbols, language and norms which I believe are of significant impact in the
entire communication process within my organization. Being a staunch Christian, I use special
gestures, images and voice projection when greeting people. I do believe that use of polite words
reduce personal space and streamline mutual co-existence. I have embraced use of body
language and official language at work place. I rarely use slang or any form of informal words at
work place. I believe in doing right for others in society.
Streamlining of verbal communication refers to the process of enhancing use of sounds,
words in the process of expressing oneself. On the other hand, streamlining of non-verbal
communication involves use of wordless clues to exchange messages. Personally, streamlining
of verbal communication is done by use of official language, organizational communication set
