Issues and Challenges Teenagers Face
This story was written by Noller, Patricia and Callan, according to her teenagers aged 13
to 20 years face ideal challenges and problems on a daily basis. In fact, this is the time when
youngsters are flabbergasted with internal and external tussles. Apparently, they go through and
are anticipated to deal with puberty, hormonal alterations, parental and social forces, school work
and pressure, as well as encountering many problems and conditions. Moreover, Noller, Patricia
and Callan 23 argued that teenagers feel astounded when they face unexpected anxieties and
confusing situations in life (Noller, Patricia and Callan 23). Besides, children with absentee
guardians are more prone to more unfavorable conditions of life. In that case, parents need to
address issues and challenges that their children encounter in a friendly manner. Besides, many
youngsters feel misjudged, hence it is essential for their parents to endorse their thoughts and
feelings. Therefore, is confidently attested that children difficult times were fitting themselves,
consequently causing them to grow into confused and unhappy adults.
Among the issues outlined in teenage wasteland by Anne Tyler is young adult

as difficult as walking on thin ice. Moreover, the pressure builds up when parents live their
dream through their children (Carr 34). They also expect their youngsters to perform well in
academics, behave well, and be responsible for life. To make matters worse, high parental
expectation when coupled with peer pressure becomes unbearable for children. The above is the
time when the seeds of anxiety, restlessness, unacceptable stresses and fear of failure are all
engrained. As a consequence, the teens may drop out of school or even subscribe to drug and
substance abuse. In the end, this destroys their lives by depriving them of their hope and purpose.
It is evident in the book by Ann Tyler whereby Cal asserts that Matt and Daisy are too
accusatory and controlling. Despite all the efforts made by Daisy to help her son improve in
academics, the school observed that his son's behavior continued to deteriorate and eventually he
was expelled.
Another issue is parental responsibility. Final thoughts or certification from parents are
essential to the teen's feelings and thoughts. In the teenage wasteland book by Ann Tyler, Daisy
and Matt are portrayed to have little concern over the ware about of Donny. They have
established a causal relationship between them and the son. In this case, it is essential to
acknowledge the fact that teens act out of curiosity. However, in the absence of parental
guidance, teenagers are unable to learn beyond their noise and learn about stuff that does not
interest them. Besides the fact that children need caring and loving guardians who are attentive to
their emotions, they also need grown-ups to teach them how to cope with failure, hardship and
struggle. Therefore, parents need to be supportive and directive; to not only praise success but
also enable teens to handle and move on when they encounter failure; to afford loving care and
have high hopes; to hold the legitimacy of their guardianship role and respect children. Children
